Hello everyone!!
Hope your week is going great! Man, conference
was amazing. What a great way to be inspired and taught what we need to do
better. All the talks were great, some of my favorite's included Elder Cardon( God
WANTS to forgive us) and Elder Callister (How to help others reach their
potential), no surprise either that President Monson and Elder Holland gave
amazing messages.
Very interesting to hear about the leadership
role for sisters. We've been speculating on that in the mission since the age
change, and it is probably a good idea; an Elder's capacity to help sisters is
fairly limited since they can't do exchanges, talk one on one, they have to be
careful about getting too close or even just looking like it etc.
You gave an interesting comment on the whole
"believing in God" argument. Of course there's plenty of brilliant
men and women on both sides of that field. On my mission I've met many
intelligent people and interestingly enough there's not much consensus.
Everyone you talk to seems to have a different feeling on why God is or isn't
real, who or what God is etc. My personal feeling is that pure brains can't
give you that kind of knowledge. Matthew 16:13-17. God is the only one who can
reveal pure truth. I feel like science gives the "how" and religion
offers the "why", we need not assume that they conflict.
Let me just share one miracle for the week.
Conference is always great because as missionaries we can invite anyone and
anything moving to come hear the prophet speak to us. We had 7 investigators
say they would watch it and all 7 actually did. May seem like a stupid
miracle but I was really grateful for a few reasons: 1) everyone came through
on their promise, integrity is amazing and in short supply these days 2) they
all got to hear a prophet of God bear testimony, that's not an everyday
experience.
Transfer calls last night: Elder D and I are both
staying in the area together, this will be his last transfer as a missionary,
kind of sad, kind of strange. We are very excited though because of all the
amazing people we are teaching right now, we didn't want to leave them.
I love you all, thanks for all you do and are,
keep being amazing! And yes, I should be able to figure out a way to get that
package from Brampton to London, thank you!
Elder Gedlaman
